HH The Amir's Hurricane Katrina
Relief Fund
Brown Lloyd James handled the highly successful global announcement
of HH The Amir's Katrina Relief Fund, which garnered millions
of media impressions worldwide - including substantial features
in the New York Times and the Washington Post; our two targeted
deliverables. The Qatar Katrina Fund, created in the immediate
wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, provided $100 million dollars
to rebuild homes, provide financial assistance and medical
care and to establish university scholarships for victims
of Katrina. Brown Lloyd James brought together key Qatari
diplomats, local grantee representatives and government officials,
and members of the press; positioned the Qatar Katrina Fund
as an example of an innovative new style of philanthropic
giving that emphasises transparency and accountability; and
showcased the strong commitment to education and human dignity
by the Qatari nation. We wrote and placed op-eds in major
national and international publications - including one by
former U.S. Secretary of State James Baker - and managed event
planning, special issues and media relations. Brown Lloyd James subsequently planned all events and meetings for HH the Amir's April 2008 visit to the United States Gulf Coast.
